In South Africa, financial group Old Mutual has appointed its chief risk officer, Ranen Thakurdin, as future group chief financial officer. He is due to officially take up the role on 1 April 2027 following a transition period and subject to regulatory approval.

As The Rio Times reports, Old Mutual announced this on 8 September 2026. The transition period will begin on 1 January 2027. Thakurdin will replace Casper Troskie, who plans to retire on 30 April 2027 after leading the group’s finances since 2018.

Experience within the group

Thakurdin has worked at Old Mutual since 2018. He is currently the group’s chief risk officer and is a member of its executive committee.

More current news is available on the UA.News Telegram channel Telegram.

Previously, he held the positions of chief accountant, general manager for group reporting and analytics, and head of capital and balance sheet optimisation at the company. Thakurdin is a fellow of the Actuarial Society of South Africa, holds a BBusSc degree, an MBA from the University of Cape Town, Financial Risk Manager certification, and Chartered Financial Analyst status.

Banking business

The appointment comes amid the development of the group’s banking business. In the first half of 2026, Old Mutual reported that the number of OM Bank customers was approaching one million. At the same time, the group increased its dividend.

Old Mutual is one of South Africa’s oldest financial groups. The three-month transition period is intended to allow time for the handover of responsibilities and completion of regulatory approval before Thakurdin takes up the position.
