Connor Esterhuizen smashed his maiden ODI century and Duan Jansen claimed four wickets as South Africa beat Namibia by 157 runs in the second ODI in Windhoek to seal the three-match series with one game still to play.Esterhuizen top-scored with a superb 119, while Tony de Zorzi added 79 as South Africa posted 335/9 after being asked to bat first. Namibia’s chase never gathered momentum as South Africa’s seamers repeatedly struck at crucial moments.Gerhard Erasmus offered some resistance with 68, but Jansen finished with 4/31 and Ethan Bosch took 3/27 to bowl Namibia out for 178 in 41.5 overs.Namibia’s bowlers made a disciplined start, restricting South Africa to 40/1 after the opening 10 overs. Jordan Hermann was dismissed for 20, but Esterhuizen gradually found his rhythm after initially struggling against the movement.He combined with de Zorzi to put South Africa in control, with the partnership accelerating after the Powerplay. Esterhuizen brought up his maiden ODI hundred in emphatic fashion, launching Gerhard Erasmus over the boundary in the 33rd over.The stand was threatening to take South Africa towards 300 before Namibia hit back. Ruben Trumpelmann dismissed Esterhuizen for 119 in the 36th over, while de Zorzi and Matthew Breetzke also departed soon after to leave South Africa at 233/4.Dewald Brevis briefly injected more aggression before falling to Trumpelmann. Bosch then smashed three sixes in the 48th over, although Namibia’s bowlers fought back with a flurry of late wickets. Nqobani Mokoena’s six in the final over took South Africa beyond 330.
Jansen, Bosch trigger Namibia’s top-order collapse
Namibia’s chase unravelled almost immediately as Jansen and Bosch tore through the top order.Bosch removed Michael van Lingen for a nine-ball duck before Jansen dismissed Malan Kruger without scoring in the following over. Jan Frylinck also fell for a duck, leaving Namibia at 1/3 inside four overs.Jansen struck again to remove Louren Steenkamp for 12, while Bosch claimed his second wicket when Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton was caught behind for six. Namibia were suddenly 35/5 in the 11th over.Erasmus and Zane Green attempted to rebuild before Green was dismissed by Jason Smith, with Brevis producing a spectacular one-handed catch at backward point.Erasmus and Jan Balt then added more than 50 for the seventh wicket, with Erasmus completing his half-century. Their resistance ended when Balt was run out for 26 after another excellent piece of fielding from Brevis.Erasmus soon followed, chipping a catch to cover to give debutant Mokoena his maiden ODI wicket.Ruben Trumpelmann and Waldo Smith added 38 for the ninth wicket, but Jansen ended the stand by trapping Waldo Smith lbw to complete his four-wicket haul. Bosch returned to dismiss Trumpelmann and finish with three wickets as Namibia were bowled out in the 42nd over.
