By SAMUEL AYAMMAH

A newly constructed 3-unit classroom block with staff common room, ICT laboratory and offices for the Okatakyie M/A Basic School in the Nkoranza South Municipality has been completed and furnished with furniture.

The facility is expected to improve access to education and enhance teaching and learning in the area.

Inspecting the project, the Bono East Regional Minister, Francis Owusu Antwi, expressed satisfaction with the quality of work executed.

He commended the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for providing furniture for the school and thanked him on behalf of the people of Nkoranza.

The Regional Minister however observed that the quantity of furniture supplied was inadequate and appealed to the MCE to increase it. He also appealed to the MCE to address a request by the headmaster for a table and chair.

Mr. Antwi congratulated the contractor, consultant and the MCE for a good job done, noting that the location of the facility will make education more accessible to both teachers and pupils.

The Headmaster of the school, Rev. Dr. Bright Adu-Boahen, said the new block has brought major relief to the school.

He explained that when he took over, the school had only a primary block and was forced to use the KG block as a JHS block.

According to him, following engagements with the Member of Parliament and the MCE, the new block was constructed within three months.

He said the school now has enough classrooms for KG, Primary and JHS, adding that teaching and learning has improved as teachers now have a common room to prepare and pupils have enough space to sit, unlike previously when teachers had to run into classrooms whenever it rained.

Rev. Dr. Adu-Boahen disclosed that the ICT laboratory is yet to receive computers and appealed to authorities and stakeholders to support the school with computers to fully equip the lab to benefit the pupils.
