Ghana Medical Relief (GMR) recorded 12,172 patient service touchpoints during its five-day free medical mission in the Ho West Constituency, with more than 8,000 people registering for care.
The 2026 mission, held from July 27 to 31 in Tsito Awudome and Dzolo Gborgame, provided free healthcare services to residents of Ho West and surrounding communities.
The 12,172 touchpoints represent the various services received by patients across different medical specialties. A single patient, for instance, could receive consultations in urology, eye care and dental services during the same visit.
The mission was organised in partnership with the Member of Parliament for Ho West, Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah, whose support contributed to the delivery of the outreach across the constituency.
More than 170 volunteers from Ghana and the diaspora participated in the mission, including about 70 physicians, nurses, pharmacists, dentists and other healthcare professionals. Non-medical volunteers also supported patient care, logistics and coordination.
GMR provided a range of free services, including general medicine, paediatrics, dental care, eye care, obstetrics and gynaecology, urology, mental health, laboratory testing, wound care and pharmacy services. Patients also received prescribed medicines at no cost.
Eligible residents received free registration or renewal support under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), helping them maintain access to healthcare beyond the medical mission.
Since launching its annual medical mission in 2018, GMR says it has provided free healthcare services to more than 60,000 people across eight regions of Ghana.
The organisation brings together healthcare professionals and volunteers from Ghana, the United States and the wider diaspora to serve underserved communities through free consultations, specialised care, medicines and NHIS support.
GMR said it would continue its annual medical missions and expand access to healthcare for underserved communities across Ghana.
