Both Kenyan teams, in a departure from last year’s bangled preparations, travelled on Tuesday, 1 September, for the qualifiers that will provide an opportunity for the winners to represent the East African region at next year’s CAF African Schools Football Championship finals.

On the agenda for the teams will also be to put in a better showing from last year, where both sides suffered early elimination in Uganda, this after arriving at the championships late.

In their Group stages matches in 2025, Kenya’s boys team won just one game (a 3-0 victory over Djibouti), having lost the first two against eventual champions Uganda (7-0), and Burundi (2-1).

The girls, on the flipside, departed the championships without a win, drawing twice against Uganda (1-1) and Rwanda (0-0), and losing 2-0 to Burundi.

In the other section of the draw, which attracted a combined 16 teams, boys’ defending regional champions Uganda headline Group A, where they will face Somalia, South Sudan, and Burundi.

Meanwhile Group A of the girls’ draw will be spearheaded by 2024 regional champions Uganda, who will take on last year’s fourth-place finishers Burundi, South Sudan, and Rwanda.
