Kenya Airways has issued an update on ongoing flight delays affecting operations into and out of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Sunday, August 30, 2026.

The national carrier said the disruption is being caused by air traffic control challenges, with a significant number of scheduled flights yet to depart as airlines continue to manage the situation.

Kenya Airways speaks

As of 2:00pm East Africa Time (EAT), Kenya Airways said only 30 per cent of its scheduled flights for the day had departed, with flights recording an average delay of between two and three hours.

The airline, however, noted that some departures were experiencing delays of more than three hours as the situation continued to affect operations at JKIA.

“We are proactively reaching out to our customers to update them on any flight changes. Customers are also advised to visit our website or KQ Mobile app, click on Manage Booking, and update their contact details to receive up-to-date information,” Kenya Airways said.

The latest update comes after passengers were warned of continued disruptions at JKIA, with travellers advised to confirm their flight status before heading to the airport.

Kenya Airways said its teams were working with relevant airport stakeholders to ensure that flights continue operating safely while efforts are made to minimise the disruption to passengers.

“The safety of our crew and customers remains our highest priority. Our teams are working with the relevant airport stakeholders to ensure safe operations and minimise the inconvenience and disruption to our customers’ travels,” the airline said.

The carrier has also apologised to passengers whose travel plans have been affected by the delays.

How to contact Kenya Airways

“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience this situation has caused to travel plans,” Kenya Airways said, adding that it would continue providing updates as new developments emerge.

Passengers requiring assistance can contact the Kenya Airways Customer Excellence team.

The airline has urged affected travellers to remain patient as airport stakeholders work to restore normal operations.

Kenya Airways said it will continue updating customers on the situation, while passengers can use the airline’s website or KQ Mobile app to access information about their bookings.
