The Kenya women’s national volleyball team, Malkia Strikers, have been paired with Nigeria in the Round of 16 of the ongoing 2026 CAVB Women’s African Nations Volleyball Championship, with rivalry between the two countries set to be renewed yet again.

While the two nations have had numerous encounters on the pitch, off it the rivalry extends with fans and citizens occasionally engaging in friendly online banter.

Malkia Strikers qualified for the Round of 16 having emerged as Pool A winners following wins over Zambia and Mali in a group that only had three teams.
The West African side, on the other hand, posted mixed results, opening with a 1-3 defeat to Tunisia, before bouncing back with a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Ghana and concluding with a heavy 0-3 loss to African giants Cameroon.
