Women’s leadership is increasingly shaping Nigeria’s national development trajectory, with more women taking charge in business, politics and public service, Ms Hassie Oyama, the Coordinator of Women in Business and Politics Summit 2026 has said.

Oyama,  a development policy advocate, made the remarks on Thursday in Abuja, while speaking ahead of the Women in Business and Politics Summit 2026 scheduled for Friday, Aug. 21.

According to her, women are no longer confined to supporting roles but are now driving policy, investment decisions and community transformation across the country.

She said ten Nigerian women from business, politics and other fields were set to receive honours at the 2026 edition of the  Summit in Abuja.

Oyama said the recognition reflected the summit’s commitment to celebrating women whose achievements and leadership contributed to national development.

She said the honourees were selected for their contributions, leadership and impact across various sectors.

Those listed for the honours include Nancy Iloh, Chioma Onyekaba, Funmi Ajila-Ladipo and Dr Aisha Achimugu.

Others are Halima Shuaibu-Kurfi, Hajia Hasfat Balewa, Sen. Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, Ima Kurfi, Hilda Titiloye and Chinenye Kester-Agwu.

Oyama said the specific honours and citations would be unveiled at the event.

According to her, the summit will bring together women leaders, business executives, political figures, entrepreneurs, professionals and other stakeholders.

She said discussions would focus on leadership, enterprise, public service, empowerment and the role of women in national development.

Oyama said the honours would be a major highlight of the summit, providing an opportunity to celebrate women whose contributions deserved recognition.

She said the event would also provide opportunities for networking and discussions on issues affecting women in business and politics. (NAN)www.nannews.ng
