The Ghana Education Service (GES) has interdicted two security guards commonly referred to as “watchmen” of the Bolgatanga Girls Senior High School (BOGISS) following an alleged sexual assault involving a special needs student of the school.
The two watchmen have also been arrested and handed over to the Police for further investigation.
In a press statement dated August, 20, 2026, the GES said management had received a report of the alleged assault, describing the incident as “disturbing”.
The statement said preliminary information indicated that the student was a special needs student who was on medication.
According to the GES, the student reportedly suffered a relapse on the day of the incident and required medical attention. The alleged assault occurred during this period.
The GES said the two watchmen had since been interdicted with immediate effect as an initial administrative measure.
The investigations into the matter were ongoing, and management would take appropriate action in accordance with the GES Code of Conduct and the laws of Ghana, depending on the outcome of the investigations, the statement indicated.
The GES also urged all staff to uphold professional standards and protect the safety, dignity and wellbeing of students.
The Service said it would not tolerate conduct which puts students at risk or compromises their safety and wellbeing.
It assured parents, guardians and the general public that the matter was being treated seriously.
The identities of the two watchmen and the student have not been disclosed.
The GES statement was signed by the Head of Public Relations, Daniel Fenyi.
