2026 Top 100 Ghana’s Women Board Directors Ranking Released

Avance Media Africa has unveiled the 2026 edition of its Top 100 Ghana’s Women Board Directors ranking, marking the second release of the list after its debut in 2023.

The annual ranking highlights 100 outstanding women serving on the boards of leading public and private institutions across the country. The recognised directors include Board Chairs, Independent Non‑Executive Directors, Non‑Executive Directors, Executive Directors and Board Directors.

Avance Media says the selection was based on a detailed assessment of experience, education, board tenure, industry expertise, leadership record, impact, and public visibility.

Key Findings

The 2026 research reviewed 100 major institutions across ten sectors of the economy, producing one of Ghana’s most comprehensive datasets on women in corporate governance.

A total of 895 board seats were identified, with 232 (25.9%) occupied by women — a slight drop from 28% in 2023.

However, the number of women serving as Board Chairs doubled from 10 in 2023 to 19 in 2026, and organisations achieving gender parity increased from 2 to 9.

Institutions with strong female board representation include the Ghana Stock Exchange, Absa Bank Ghana, Old Mutual Ghana, Media General, Access Bank Ghana, First National Bank Ghana, Prudential Life Insurance Ghana, MTN Ghana, and the Energy Commission.

Notable improvements were also recorded at FirstBank Ghana, OmniBSIC Bank Ghana, Ecobank Ghana, Bank of Ghana, Electricity Company of Ghana, Zenith Bank Ghana, and Old Mutual Ghana.

New Entrants and Returning Directors

Of the 100 women featured this year, 71 are new entrants, while 29 return from the 2023 list — signalling both rising female leadership and continuity among established board directors.

Avance Media’s Remarks

Commenting on the release, Prince Akpah, Founder and Managing Director of Avance Media Africa, said the ranking celebrates women whose leadership continues to strengthen governance across Ghana’s public and private sectors.

“Beyond celebrating individual achievement, the ranking highlights the growing impact women are making in shaping strategic decisions, promoting accountability and driving sustainable organisational success. We hope these remarkable leaders will inspire more women to pursue leadership roles while encouraging institutions to build more inclusive and diverse boardrooms.”

Upcoming Report

Avance Media Africa will also publish the maiden Women in Ghana’s Boardrooms Report 2026, a detailed research document analysing female representation, board diversity, sector performance and governance trends across leading institutions.

Profiles of all 100 women are available at www.avancemedia.org/gwbd.
