President William Ruto has ordered the Ministry of Education to begin an annual State House event for winners of the Kenya Science and Engineering Fair from 2027.

Ruto made the announcement at the 98th Kenya Music Festival State Concert hosted at the State Lodge in Bungoma on Friday, August 14, and it is aimed at speeding up the adoption of the ideas.

“Effective next year, the Ministry of Education must bring the winners of the annual Kenya Science and Engineering Fair to State House,” he directed.

According to the president, the directive seeks to give national recognition to students who excel in science, technology, and innovation competitions.

He said students involved in scientific innovation should receive recognition similar to that given to young people who excel in music and drama.

“The same way we recognise the talent in music in drama, I think it is time we brought our scientists and innovators on board because they make a huge contribution to the future of our nation,” he added.

The President noted that despite the existence of an annual science and innovation competition, which has been running since 1962, its winners have never previously been formally invited to State House.

Under the new directive, winners of the Kenya Science and Engineering Fair will be invited to State House to showcase their projects and receive recognition, similar to participants at the annual Music Festival State Concert.
