The Co-operative Bank of Kenya has been named the country’s Best Retail Bank and Best Digital Bank at the 2026 Euromoney Awards for Excellence.

Established in 1992, the Euromoney Awards for Excellence are among the most recognised honours in global financial services, celebrating banks, bankers and fintech providers for performance, innovation and customer impact.

Co-op Bank received the awards during a ceremony held on Thursday, July 16, at The Peninsula in London.

According to Euromoney, the Best Digital Bank award recognises Co-op Bank’s continued investment in secure, scalable and convenient digital banking capabilities.

The investments include enhanced digital onboarding, payment and credit capabilities, open-banking integrations and a growing suite of digital-first solutions such as the Co-op Bank App.

The Best Retail Bank category recognises institutions that expand financial access, build scalable digital platforms and improve customer experience.

Euromoney evaluates banks based on their ability to serve customers through branch networks, agency banking and mobile channels while improving how people manage money, pay bills and access credit.

Co-op Bank ranked highly in these areas, with more than 90 per cent of transactions by its 9.8 million customers conducted through digital and alternative channels.

Commenting on the awards, Co-operative Bank of Kenya Group Managing Director and CEO Dr Gideon Muriuki said the recognition affirmed the bank’s customer-focused strategy and progress in combining relationship banking with digital solutions.

“This recognition as Kenya’s Best Retail Bank and Best Digital Bank is a strong affirmation of our customer-centric strategy and the progress we continue to make in combining trusted relationship banking with secure, accessible and innovative digital solutions,” Muriuki said.

He added that the bank remained committed to supporting individuals, families, entrepreneurs and co-operatives through every stage of their financial journey.

The awards come as Co-op Bank continues to implement its Good to Great Strategy, which focuses on customer centricity, seamless customer experience, digital enablement and sustainable growth.

The recognition adds to recent accolades won by the bank, including SME Bank of the Year in Africa at the African Banker Awards, Best Commercial Bank of the Year, Kenya, by International Banker Africa and North Africa Banking Awards, the SME Financier of the Year,  Africa (Gold) award, and Product Innovation of the Year, Africa award at the Global SME Finance Awards 2025.
