Some of Ghana’s most topical legal, political and governance issues will come under scrutiny this Saturday, July 18, as Newsfile, the flagship current affairs programme on the Multimedia Group platforms, returns with a panel of lawyers, governance experts and policy analysts to examine recent national developments.

The programme, hosted by Samson Lardy Anyenini, will air from 8 a.m. to 12 noon on JoyNews, Joy FM and Luv FM.

The discussion will centre on four major national issues that have generated widespread public debate in recent days.

Top on the agenda is the GH¢50 million bail case involving former Executive Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCCoD) Dennis Miracles Aboagye, which follows legal proceedings between the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) and vocal NPP communications team member. The panel is expected to examine the legal and constitutional issues arising from the case.

The programme will also analyse Parliament’s recent passage of the Tribunals Bill, 2026, a measure that has sparked sharp disagreements between the Majority and Minority caucuses. While the government maintains that the legislation seeks to modernise Ghana’s tribunal system, the Minority has argued that the law raises concerns about due process and fairness.

Environmental governance will also feature prominently, with discussions focusing on the liberation of Achimota Forest, illegal mining (galamsey) and recent proposals to amend Ghana’s mining laws as authorities intensify efforts to combat environmental degradation.

Another key issue expected to receive attention is the controversy surrounding the closed-door engagement involving the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, with the programme posing the question of whether transparency has been compromised in matters of public interest.

The panel will further examine the constituency elections of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Joining the discussion are Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, Vice-Chairman of Parliament’s Subsidiary Legislation Committee and a member of the Constitutional and Legal Affairs Committee; Theophilus Dzimega Jnr, lawyer, engineer and member of the NDC National Communications Team; Victoria Bright, international corporate lawyer and entrepreneur; James Kwabena Bomfeh Jnr, Chief Executive Officer of the Centre for Greater Impact Africa (ConCES) and lecturer at UPSA; and Dr John Osae-Kwapong, Director of Quality Assurance and Institutional Effectiveness at Ashesi University and Fellow of CDD-Ghana.

The four-hour programme is expected to provide legal, political and governance perspectives on issues currently dominating Ghana’s national discourse.
