George said the new Director-General assumes office at a critical time, with the government set to introduce reforms aimed at strengthening the governance and regulation of the digital sector.

Ghana’s Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations,  Samuel Nartey George, has officially introduced Nana Yaw Amoah-Yeboah as the new Director-General of the National Information Technology Agency (NITA), succeeding Dr. Mark-Oliver Kevor, as the government prepares to implement wide-ranging reforms in the country’s digital sector.

During the handover ceremony, the minister praised Dr. Kevor for his leadership and contributions to NITA, highlighting his role in strengthening the National Data Centre and advancing key digital government initiatives that have supported Ghana’s digital transformation agenda.

George said the new Director-General assumes office at a critical time, with the government set to introduce reforms aimed at strengthening the governance and regulation of the digital sector. He revealed that the proposed NITA Act, once approved by Parliament, will establish a stronger governance framework by separating the agency’s regulatory responsibilities from its commercial functions.

The minister also announced new measures to strengthen the governance of Ghana’s national digital infrastructure. Under the new policy, all payments related to infrastructure managed by NITA will be made directly to the agency, a move intended to improve accountability, safeguard public assets and enhance operational efficiency.

He emphasized that effective regulation will be essential to supporting innovation while ensuring the sustainable growth of Ghana’s expanding digital economy and fintech ecosystem.

Introducing the new Director-General, George described Amoah-Yeboah as an experienced technology professional with more than a decade of expertise in the information technology sector, including significant involvement in government digital transformation projects. He encouraged the new NITA chief to promote collaboration, maintain an open leadership style and build on the agency’s progress as it evolves into a stronger digital regulator.

NITA Board Chair Estelle Akofio-Sowah expressed confidence in Amoah-Yeboah’s leadership, pledging the board’s support as the agency enters its next phase of growth. She urged him to leverage the expertise of NITA’s staff to help advance Ghana’s digital transformation objectives.

In his acceptance remarks, Amoah-Yeboah thanked the government for the appointment and pledged to work closely with the board, management and staff to build on NITA’s achievements. He said his priority would be to support the government’s vision of delivering a secure, innovative and digitally inclusive public service while strengthening the agency’s role in Ghana’s digital development.
