Tamale, July 15, GNA – The Northern Region Muslims Council of Ghana has extended its condolences to the Royal Family, the people of the Dagbon Kingdom and the entire nation on the passing of Ya-Na Abukari II, Overlord of Dagbon.

It said it was deeply saddened and grieved by the painful loss of the Ya-Na adding “The death of Ya-Na is not only a great loss to the Dagbon Kingdom but also to the entire Muslim Ummah.

His recent intervention in bringing fueding Imams to his Palace is still a fresh testimony.”

This was contained in a statement issued by the Council, signed by Sheikh Issah Abubakari Alhassan, its Chairman, and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Tamale on Wednesday.

The statement said, “His wisdom, exemplary leadership and unwavering commitment to peace and unity among the various Muslim sects contributed immensely to the harmonious coexistence enjoyed among Muslim groups in Dagbon.”

It added that “His support for Islam, close relationship with the Muslim community and continuous encouragement towards uplifting Islamic values greatly contributed to the promotion of peace and religious tolerance in the region.”

The statement said “As we mourn this irreplaceable loss, we take consolation in his wise counsel, exemplary leadership and enduring legacy. His commitment to justice, peace and unity will continue to inspire generations.”

It called on all Muslims and Dagbamba to remain calm, united and prayerful for Dagbon throughout the mourning period.

It urged all especially Muslims, to respect the traditions and customs associated with the funeral rites of the late Ya-Na, and to uphold peace, mutual respect and harmony during this solemn occasion.

“It is our sincere prayer that Almighty Allah forgive the shortcomings of our beloved Overlord, grant him Jannatul Firdaus and give the Royal Family, the Chiefs and people of Dagbon, and the entire Muslim Ummah the strength and fortitude to bear this great loss. May He guide all the kingdom through a smooth, peaceful succession for us to fill the vacuum created,” the statement said.
