The Ghana Beauty & Wellness Index was officially commissioned at the opening ceremony of the 10th Beauty, Cosmetics & Wellness West Africa 2026 exhibition, known as The Legacy Expo under the theme, “10 Years of Impact: The Legacy Era.”

The announcement was made by the Chief Executive Officer of Makeup Ghana, Rebecca Donkor, who described the initiative as a major step towards understanding the size and impact of Ghana’s beauty and wellness industry.

“For years, we have gathered to trade, learn, connect and grow. Yet one fundamental question has remained unanswered: How big is Ghana’s beauty and wellness industry? Today, we are taking a decisive step towards finding that answer,” she said.

The Index, which will be published every two years starting in 2026, is expected to provide data on the industry’s economic contribution, the number of businesses and practitioners, consumer spending patterns, industry standards, and policy recommendations.

According to Rebecca, the project will help provide reliable information to support investment, policy development and business growth within the sector.

“This is not our Index alone. It is the industry’s Index. Together, we will finally measure, understand and showcase the true value of Ghana’s beauty and wellness sector,” she stated.

A key focus of the Index will be to determine the sector’s contribution to Ghana’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and highlight its role in job creation and economic growth.

The inaugural Ghana Beauty & Wellness Index is expected to be launched at the Ghana Beauty Awards in November 2026.

Organisers have called on industry stakeholders, brands, institutions and development partners to support the initiative.

“We are inviting brands, institutions, development partners, sponsors, practitioners and stakeholders to join us in building this historic national document. Because this is more than an Index, it is a voice for the industry. It is a tool for transformation. It is a foundation for the future,” she said.
