Ghana’s Black Queens have withdrawn from the upcoming three-nation women’s tournament scheduled to be held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, during the June FIFA international window.
The competition was set to feature hosts Tanzania, Ghana and Malawi from June 1 to June 9 as part of preparations for upcoming international assignments.
The Black Queens had been expected to use the tournament as part of their build-up to the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), where they will be aiming to make a strong impression.
However, Ghana will no longer participate after deciding to pull out of the tournament. The reasons behind the withdrawal have not yet been officially disclosed.
The development means Tanzania and Malawi will have to adjust their plans for the competition, which was intended to provide valuable match practice during the international break.
Despite the withdrawal, preparations for WAFCON 2026 are expected to continue, with the Black Queens remaining in Accra during the FIFA window.
The team is instead expected to engage in a series of friendly matches in the capital as the technical team continues preparations for the continental tournament.
The Black Queens have been working towards building a competitive squad ahead of WAFCON, with the June international window viewed as an important stage in their preparations.
