Hohoe (V/R), May 29, GNA – Mr Prosper Kumi, Hohoe Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), has stated that Hohoe, as a major business hub in the Volta Region, must position itself to accommodate increasing economic activities.
He said markets remained a key driver of commerce, particularly as Hohoe is strategically located along the Eastern Corridor Road, serving both traders and travellers.
Mr Kumi made the remarks during the handing over of a construction site for a 24-hour economy market project to contractors by the Municipal Assembly and key stakeholders.
He noted that the new market facility would complement existing trading centres and help centralise commercial activities within the municipality.
According to the MCE, although the project was originally planned for a two-acre land, the Assembly had secured an additional two acres, bringing the total to four acres to allow for future expansion.
Mr Kumi acknowledged that the construction work might inconvenience traders, especially market women, but assured that the Assembly would take steps to address any challenges that might arise.

He appealed to traders to remain patient throughout the construction period.
The MCE also urged the construction firm to prioritise the engagement of local labour to help improve livelihoods within the municipality.
Togbe Keh XII, Divisional Chief of Gbi-Wegbe, who represented Togbega Gabusu VII, commended landowners for releasing their lands for the project.
He expressed confidence that the project would be completed within the stipulated timeframe and called for unity among stakeholders to ensure its successful execution.
Madam Rebecca Titriku, Secretary of the Hohoe Market Women Association, appealed to the contractor to adhere strictly to the project schedule and pledged the Association’s support.
The project is expected to be completed within 30 months at a cost of GH¢31,504,272.80.
