As part of his Resetting Ghana tour of the Eastern Region, President John Mahama has commissioned the Krobo Odumase Divisional Police Headquarters, underscoring his administration’s commitment to strengthening security infrastructure and modernising the Ghana Police Service.
Speaking at the ceremony, the President stressed that national development is anchored on peace and security, noting that without stability, economic growth, quality education, and sustainable livelihoods cannot be achieved.
“Security remains the bedrock upon which national development can be built. Without peace and stability, there can be no meaningful progress,” he stated.
President Mahama reiterated his government’s investment in the police service, revealing that 40 armoured vehicles were procured for the Ghana Police Service at the beginning of his administration to support anti-robbery operations nationwide.
He further announced that an additional 40 armoured vehicles are expected to be delivered to enhance the operational capacity of the service.
“We used to deploy light pickup vehicles against armed robbers in the past, and we lost many officers in the line of duty. We cannot allow that to happen again. Our officers must be properly equipped to work and return safely to their families,” he said.
The President outlined his vision of building a modern, professional, and intelligence-led police service that prioritises prevention of crime through innovation, data, and community collaboration.
He described the newly commissioned facility as a strategic asset that will improve intelligence gathering, strengthen rapid response systems, and enhance coordination within the Eastern Region and beyond.
President Mahama commended the Member of Parliament for the area, Hon. Taylor Bee, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), and the Police Management Board for their roles in supporting the rehabilitation of the facility and advancing reforms within the service.
He praised the leadership of the police administration, describing it as “quiet but highly effective,” particularly in the shift towards intelligence-led policing.
“In an era where crime is increasingly sophisticated, our response must be equally dynamic and forward-looking,” he noted.
The President also emphasised the importance of technology, training, and officer welfare in modern policing, while urging personnel to uphold professionalism, discipline, and respect for human rights.
“Policing is not merely about enforcing the law; it is about service, fairness, integrity, and the courage to do what is right at all times,” he said.
He further highlighted recent reforms in police recruitment and training, revealing that officers who scored above 50 percent in recent examinations would all be admitted into the Police College to expand professional capacity within the service.
President Mahama also paid tribute to Ghana’s first African Inspector General of Police, E.R.T. Madjitey, a proud son of Krobo land, noting that the commissioning of the facility coincides with 30 years since his passing.
“It is fitting that we commission this facility in his homeland as a tribute to his legacy of discipline, excellence, and visionary leadership,” he said.
He called on chiefs and residents of Kroboland to support the police service through community cooperation and timely information sharing, stressing that security is a shared responsibility.
To support operations at the new facility, the President donated a brand-new pickup vehicle and two motorcycles to the divisional command.
He concluded by officially commissioning the Krobo Odumase Divisional Police Headquarters, expressing optimism that the facility will strengthen security and contribute to national development.
