Former MP for Kpone Katamansu, Hopeson Adorye, has entered the ongoing debate surrounding current power outages, asserting that the situation does not qualify as “dumsor.”

In an interview with JoyNews on April 28, 2026, Adorye stated, “I cannot say this situation today can be termed, as the slogan goes, dumsor.”

He explained that the term “dumsor” refers to periods of power outages that were both unpredictable and prolonged, with some lasting for days.

Adorye elaborated, “The term dumsor came when the outages were such that you could predict the power would go off in the evening. Sometimes, it would be days—two or three—before the lights came back on.”

He clarified that the current power cuts stem from the replacement of outdated and overloaded transformers, noting that such replacements necessitate temporary outages.

“The transformer servicing this area is being replaced,” he said.

“Can the light be on while they are replacing the transformer? No. Automatically, power will go off during the replacement before power is restored.”

In conclusion, Adorye expressed his satisfaction with the government’s efforts to upgrade the electrical infrastructure, saying, “So I am happy that this current government is doing that.”
