The Administrator of the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC), Tanko Rashid-Computer, has underscored the critical role of technology in the nation’s preparations for the upcoming World Cup.
He said effective planning and coordination of the nation in the global tournament would depend largely on robust digital systems for tactics, monitoring and efficiency within the sector ministry.
Mr Rashid-Computer said this when GIFEC presented high-speed laptops and projectors to the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, as part of efforts to strengthen its digital capacity ahead of the tournament.
The support formed part of collaborations between GIFEC and the ministry as the national team intensifies preparations for the World Cup.
Broader mandate
Mr Rashid-Computer further explained that the support was part of GIFEC’s broader mandate to drive digital transformation across public institutions, adding that the initiative would also enhance operational efficiency within the ministry.
“We are committed to supporting the ministry’s digitalisation agenda because efficient planning and coordination, especially ahead of a global event such as the World Cup depends heavily on reliable technology.
“This intervention is not just about the provision of devices; it is about building systems that enable faster decision-making and improved collaboration,” he said.
The administrator added that digital transformation remained essential for institutions seeking to perform effectively on the international stage, particularly in managing large-scale events such as the World Cup.
Appreciation
The Senior Technical Advisor to the Minister of Sports and Recreation, Betty Krosbi Mensah, who received the items on behalf of the sector minister, Kofi Adams, expressed appreciation to GIFEC for the timely support.
She was accompanied by the Personal Assistant to the minister, Wonder Sitsofe Mandel.
Also present at the presentation ceremony were the Director of Corporate Affairs at GIFEC, Francisca Adjei and the Head of Training, Zulaiya Yakubu.
