The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has taken down two robbery gangs in separate intelligence-led operations at Krofrom and Mamponteng, near Kumasi.
The first operation, carried out on March 26, 2026, under the leadership of the Regional Operations Commander, resulted in the death of a 27-year-old suspect, Muniru Ali.
Addressing the media in Bekwai on Tuesday, March 31, the Ashanti South Commander, DCOP Joseph Hammond Nyaaba, said the suspect engaged officers in a gun battle upon spotting them while attempting to flee.
He sustained gunshot wounds during the exchange and was subsequently transported to the Bekwai Government Hospital for treatment.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Ali admitted to his involvement in multiple robbery incidents within the region.
He, however, succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical care.
In a separate operation on March 28, 2026, police arrested 28-year-old Osmanu Razak, identified as a gang leader, at Mamponteng. Razak, who is reported to hail from Garu, is said to have confessed to participating in several robbery activities in the Ashanti Region.
The police say investigations are ongoing as efforts continue to clamp down on criminal networks in the region.
