Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has called on President John Dramani Mahama to prioritise the completion of the Agenda 111 hospital projects initiated under his administration, stressing the need for continuity in national development.
According to him, although not all the facilities were completed before he left office, a significant number had reached advanced stages and require sustained commitment to become operational.
Speaking at the centenary celebrations of the Kyebi Government Hospital, organised by the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional State last Sunday, the former President emphasised that consistency in executing national projects is critical to improving healthcare delivery and ensuring equitable access across the country.
Mr. Akufo-Addo explained that the Agenda 111 initiative was designed to address disparities in healthcare infrastructure by constructing district and regional hospitals, specialised psychiatric facilities, and rehabilitating key health institutions nationwide.
“Agenda 111 was designed to correct imbalance in healthcare delivery by constructing district hospitals, regional hospitals, specialised psychiatric facilities and rehabilitating key health institutions across the country,” he stated.
The former President noted that the programme was anchored on the principle that quality healthcare should be accessible to all citizens, regardless of their location.
He further argued that meaningful progress in the health sector depends on policy continuity rather than disruption of ongoing initiatives by successive governments.
“Agenda 111 must be conditioned on continuity, not disruption. What was started must be completed,” he stressed.
Mr. Akufo-Addo also underscored the critical role of healthcare professionals in sustaining the system, commending doctors, nurses, and technical staff for their resilience and dedication despite challenging working conditions.
He added that investments in infrastructure must be complemented by strengthened human resource capacity and innovation to enhance service delivery nationwide.
The former President urged that healthcare development should remain a non-partisan priority, emphasising that national interest must take precedence in efforts to improve the nation’s health system.
