“The following areas are scheduled for planned power maintenance tomorrow, 12.03.2026,” Kenya Power posted on their social media accounts on Wednesday, March 11, 2026.
In the Nairobi region, the blackout will affect parts of Karen Road and surrounding areas from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm. Kenya Power has encouraged customers to check its official channels for updates and to report emergencies promptly. The company apologised for any inconvenience caused by the scheduled maintenance.
Kenya Power explains rising token costs
The planned outages come as Kenya Power also responds to customers’ concerns about paying more for fewer electricity tokens. Speaking on Tuesday, March 10, CEO Joseph Siror explained that the cost of electricity depends on household consumption, the appliances used, and the country’s investment in power infrastructure.
He said part of each token purchase may go towards clearing outstanding bills, which can reduce the number of units a household receives.
“If you look at electricity infrastructure, it reaches your doorstep. Putting up and maintaining that infrastructure is quite expensive. Much of our energy is green, like geothermal, which requires significant investment,” Siror said.
