I Can’t Cope – Kunle Afolayan Cries Out Over ₦11m Monthly Diesel Cost

Nollywood filmmaker Kunle Afolayan, has raised concern over the rising cost of diesel used to run his businesses.

Naija News reports that the businessman said the amount spent on fuel has become very difficult to manage.

The film producer disclosed that his businesses now spend about ₦11 million on diesel within four to five weeks, a situation he said is putting serious pressure on his operations.

Afolayan, who runs the KAP Film Village and Resort, shared this during a video posted on his Instagram page on Tuesday.

In the video, the filmmaker explained that the high fuel costs are affecting the smooth running of his facilities.

He said the price of diesel has increased sharply, and this has made it hard for him to keep up with the expenses.

According to him, even though solar power has already been installed at the film village and other facilities, the businesses still depend heavily on diesel to maintain a regular power supply.

He explained that the rising price of diesel has made the situation worse, as the fuel now sells at about ₦1,500 per litre, which is higher than what it used to cost before.

Afolayan also revealed that his businesses have had to rely on buying diesel on credit in order to continue operating.

He said payments are usually made gradually whenever money comes in, and it sometimes takes up to two months before the outstanding amount can be cleared.

He said: “I’ve been sad because I can’t cope with the N1,500 per litre of diesel. In one of the businesses that we run, the KAP Village, we spend about N11m in four or five weeks on diesel. And we have solar power, but we’re still spending about N11m.

“The diesel we’ve been buying, we’ve been buying on credit. When we make small money, we find a way to pay. Sometimes it takes two months to even pay down and then get another one on credit. But now from about N1,000 or N995 to N1,500, it’s not sustainable. If you can come to our aid, I’ll really appreciate.”

His comments come after the Dangote Petroleum Refinery increased the gantry price of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) to ₦1,175 per litre, up from ₦995 per litre.

The change marked the third price adjustment within one week and represented an increase of ₦180 in just three days.
