Akuapem North Member of Parliament (MP) Sammi Awuku says the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is positioning itself as an election-winning force for 2028, while simultaneously accusing the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) government of delivering on less than half of its pledges in its first year in office.
Speaking on AsaasePa FM, Awuku projected confidence about the NPP’s prospects, saying the party was determined to rebuild into a formidable electoral machine. “The party intends to become an election-winning machine. We tried that in 2016. I pray that God helps us so we get a solid team,” he said.
He noted that the party’s upcoming national executive elections, expected before the end of the year, would naturally reshape its leadership structure, with some incumbents stepping aside and new figures stepping up. “It is crystal clear that the current national executives we have now will not all return after the election by the close of the year,” Awuku explained, adding that the resulting team would be closely aligned with flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign strategy.
On the NDC’s performance in office, Awuku was pointed in his assessment. He claimed that out of 112 programmes and initiatives the NDC committed to across various sectors of the economy, only 43, representing 38 percent, had been fulfilled by the close of 2025. He said 41 others remain in progress while 28 have not been started. “The NDC government fulfilled just 38 percent of their 112 commitments. Forty-one still remain in progress, and 28 remain untouched,” he stated.
The NDC government has not publicly responded to Awuku’s figures.
Awuku’s comments come as the NPP, now in opposition following its 2024 electoral defeat, works to consolidate around Dr. Bawumia, who won the party’s presidential primary in January 2026 with 56.48 percent of delegate votes.
