Delta APC debunks alleged attack on Ibori’s daughter

The Delta State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has debunked reports of an alleged attack on the daughter of former Governor James Ibori, Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, who is the member representing Ethiope Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, describing the claim as false and media sensationalism.

In a statement signed by the state Publicity Secretary of the party, Valentine Onojeghuo in Asaba on Saturday, the party insisted that contrary to reports making the rounds that the lawmaker was attacked early on Saturday by suspected political thugs during the party’s congress in the council, there was no breach of peace anywhere in the state during the congress.

Onojeghuo also dismissed allegations of violence and parallel executives arising from its just-concluded local government congress in Ethiope West LGA and other parts of the state.

The party spokesman maintained that the congress was conducted strictly in line with the party’s constitution and guidelines approved by its National Working Committee, describing the exercise as peaceful, orderly and rancour-free.

“There were no parallel congresses anywhere in Delta State. Those peddling such reports are living in self-denial and seeking relevance through deliberate distortion of facts. The APC structure in Delta State is intact, cohesive and fully integrated

“Since 2014, this is the first time our party has successfully conducted congresses across Delta State in such a peaceful manner,” he stated.

Onojeghuo stressed that the process was monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and there was no report of violence that could lead to an attack on the lawmaker.

He also lauded Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for what he described as improved unity within the party, adding that there were no reports of violence in Ethiope Federal Constituency or any other part of the state.

“The era of impunity, exclusion and divisive politics is over. What we have today is a broad-based and inclusive structure that accommodates both longstanding members and new entrants,” he added.
