President Bola Tinubu has approved the constitution of the Board of the Nigeria Anti-Doping Agency (NADA), Sports247 reports.

This was disclosed by the Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Shehu Dikko, on Thursday while briefing State House correspondents after a meeting with the President at the State House, Abuja.

According to him, the approval followed the President’s earlier signing of the Anti-Doping Bill into law after nearly 20 years of delay.

“And now he has approved that the board of the Anti-Doping Agency of Nigeria should be constituted,” Dikko said.

He explained that the move fulfilled a key requirement of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and further strengthened Nigeria’s clean sport status internationally.

Dikko added that the visit to the President was also to brief him on the achievements recorded by the sports sector in 2025 and to outline plans for 2026.

“Mr President is very happy; he’s very excited with the progress,” he said.

According to Dikko, Nigeria won about 375 medals across different sports in 2025.

He also revealed that the sports sector contributed about 1.2 per cent to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the third quarter of 2025 and attracted approximately ₦50 billion in private funding.

“Last year, we induced almost 140,000 jobs, both direct, indirect and induced,” he added.

The approval of the Anti-Doping Agency board is expected to enhance regulatory oversight, compliance with international standards, and the promotion of fair play across Nigerian sports.
