A 37-year-old man, Onyedika Okpala, has been allegedly killed by his two brothers during a dispute over family inheritance in Ekwulobia, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State.

PUNCH Metro learnt from a statement by security expert, Zagazola Makama, on Thursday that the incident occurred at about 4:50 p.m. on Wednesday, at Umunkwo Village, Ula, Ekwulobia.

According to him, sources in the community said the deceased was attacked with machetes by his brothers, identified as Okwudili Okpala and Chigbo Okpala, following a heated argument over property sharing and inheritance rights.

He wrote, “A 37-year-old man has been killed in Ekwulobia, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra, following a violent dispute over family inheritance. Zagazola gathered that the incident occurred at about 4:50 p.m. on Feb. 11, 2026, at Umunkwo Village, Ula, Ekwulobia.

“The victim, identified as Onyedika Okpala, was reportedly attacked with machetes by two of his brothers, Okwudili Okpala and Chigbo Okpala, during a heated argument over property and inheritance rights. According to a family source, the suspects inflicted severe injuries on the victim’s head, causing him to bleed profusely and collapse unconscious at the scene.”

The incident was reportedly brought to the attention of the police by the victim’s sister.

Makama added that operatives were said to have swiftly responded to the distress call and rushed to the scene, but the suspects had fled before their arrival.

“The victim was evacuated to the General Hospital, Ekwulobia, where a doctor on duty confirmed him dead on arrival. His corpse has been deposited in the hospital morgue for autopsy. Investigation has commenced, while efforts are being intensified to apprehend the fleeing suspects,” he added.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Tochucku Ikenga, could not be reached for comments as calls made to his telephone lines were not responded to. A text message sent to him had yet to be replied to as of the time this report was filed.

PUNCH Metro reported in December 2025 that a young man, identified simply as Chisom, was killed during an argument over a phone charger in Ihiala, Anambra State.
