Highlife musician Kwabena Kwabena has responded to recent comments made by Akwaboah regarding the booking of venues and dates for Valentine’s Day concerts.

This recurring topic has sparked several discussions within the entertainment space.

The recent exchange follows Akwaboah’s claims in a recent interview in which he threw jabs, stating that competition over venues and scheduling nearly affected his planning for this year’s Valentine’s event.

“Every year I schedule the concert on the 14th, but this time I want to host it on the 21st. Last year, my issue with him concerning the Grand Arena came up. I’ve also realised that whenever such issues come up, people with loud voices rush to defend their favorites and make it seem like you don’t know what you’re saying. I don’t want that situation this year.

“In this life, I’ve come to understand that there are people who will help you rise to the top, and once you get there, those same people may try to bring you down,” Akwaboah earlier told Nana Romeo.

Responding to the claims during an exclusive interview with Elsie Lamar on Talkertainment, Kwabena Kwabena explained that the venue selection is usually handled by his management team and denied any interference in his ‘competitors’ bookings.

“I am an artiste who always wants to do a good event. My team is always responsible for where to book for us to stage these shows… There is no instance where I’ve cancelled anyone’s bookings. Any man is free to go anywhere and ask for services,” he said.

He noted that if the debate is about who controls the February 14 Valentine’s Day concert, then by that logic, no one else should host a show on that date because he is the originator of the Valentine’s Day concert tradition in Ghana.

“If that is the premise, then I’ll also say no one should do a Valentine’s Day show because I started it. I began this in 2014 and never had issues with any artiste. We should conduct ourselves properly instead of blaming others for our problems,” he stated.

The Val’s Day event tradition

Akwaboah has long staged his annual “Shades of Love” concert during the Valentine’s season, positioning it as a staple for fans seeking live, love-themed performances.

Similarly, Kwabena Kwabena’s Valentine’s concert series, “Love Night”, has grown into a major fixture on the entertainment calendar.

Both shows have become renowned for attracting couples and music lovers alike.
