FRCN Backs FAAN’s Modernisation Drive with Expanded Public Awareness Campaigns

…targets grassroots

The Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, FRCN, Lagos Operations says it is strengthening collaboration with the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, to boost public awareness of aviation activities, safety initiatives and ongoing sector reforms.

Director, Lagos Operations, FRCN, Princess Adenike Adegoke, gave the assurance during a courtesy visit to FAAN management in Lagos.

She described Radio Nigeria as a strategic partner in promoting aviation development, noting that Lagos Operations supervises Radio 1, Metro 97.7 and Bond FM 92.9, all of which provide platforms to reach diverse audiences across the country.

Princess Adegoke commended FAAN for upgrading facilities across 21 airports nationwide, describing the improvements as vital to enhancing passenger experience and strengthening national revenue generation.

She said Radio Nigeria’s expansive broadcast network and growing digital presence place the organisation in a strong position to project FAAN’s activities and deepen public understanding of aviation safety, security and operational processes.

The DLO also called for greater FAAN participation in aviation-focused programmes, including Aviation Runway on Metro 97.7, while proposing similar content in indigenous languages to expand grassroots awareness.

The FRCN director further suggested that FAAN consider commemorating the legacy of former Head of State, General Murtala Muhammed, after whom Nigeria’s busiest airport is named.

Responding, FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mr. Henry Agbebire, underscored the importance of radio in communicating aviation reforms, especially as the Federal Government intensifies infrastructure upgrades at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.

He described Radio Nigeria as a credible platform with strong grassroots reach, stressing that media partnership is essential in ensuring public awareness of transformation efforts across Nigeria’s airports.

Mr. Agbebire highlighted the ongoing comprehensive renovation of Terminal One at the Lagos airport, a major project under the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope infrastructure programme.

According to him, the Lagos airport generates nearly 70 percent of the nation’s aviation revenue, making its modernisation critical to sustaining global competitiveness and improving passenger comfort.

He explained that years of overuse and outdated infrastructure made a total overhaul necessary, adding that a temporary terminal is being constructed to maintain flight operations during the renovation period.

Mr. Agbebire, however, warned that construction activities may lead to traffic disruptions around the airport corridor and emphasised the need for sustained public sensitization through radio and other media platforms.

He also disclosed that FAAN has recently secured additional International Organisation for Standardization, ISO, certifications, increasing the number of certified airports in Nigeria from two to four, with plans to extend certification nationwide, as part of efforts to strengthen operational standards and project ongoing improvements in the aviation sector.
