What has the coach done? – Ex-Kotoko star raises red flag on Karim Zito’s exit

Former Asante Kotoko striker, Yahaya Mohammed has expressed his discontent regarding the demands for Karim Zito to step down as head coach from the Kumasi-based club.

The Porcupine Warriors announced on Monday that their head coach has resigned from his post after the team’s exit from the MTN FA Cup.

However, the call for Zito’s dismissal and his resignation comes as a shock to Yahaya Mohammed.

The former GPL star believes that retaining the U20 AFCON winner would have been the wisest move, pointing to injuries and disciplinary problems as key factors in their disappointing performance.

Speaking in an interview with Mothers FM and Tv, he said: “Kotoko’s season has been uneven due to injuries, the impact of the African campaign, and some disciplinary issues, though their performance hasn’t been entirely poor.

“I’d give them an 8 out of 10, as the coach has done a commendable job navigating injuries and discipline challenges within the team.

“What has the coach done Things might have turned out differently if Albert Amoah hadn’t been sold during Kwame Poku’s injury. The team’s performance isn’t bad under Karim Zito.”

With the resignation effective immediately, Kotoko now faces the challenging task of gearing up for the Super Clash without a head coach in place.

The matchup against Hearts is not just another game; it’s one of the most intense rivalries in Ghanaian football, often carrying major implications beyond just league points.

Club officials have promised to announce the new technical direction for Kotoko soon, hinting at potential interim arrangements as they prepare for this high-stakes encounter.

For now, all eyes will be on the players and how they respond to this sudden shift. Kotoko aims to unite and deliver a strong performance against their oldest rivals, despite the uncertainty surrounding the coaching situation.
