The statistics, buried in Google’s Transparency Report for the first half of 2025, paint a damning picture of an administration increasingly intolerant of online criticism. While the government cites “national security” and “defamation,” the tech giant’s refusal to comply suggests that many of these requests are thinly veiled attempts to silence political opposition and investigative journalism.
The Surge in Censorship
The volume of takedown requests has quadrupled, a metric that correlates directly with the rising political temperature in the country. The Communications Authority (CA) has become the primary funnel for these demands, targeting YouTube videos and Search results that arguably expose state excesses.
