New Black Stars Technical staff members

The Government of Ghana will fully fund the salaries of the newly appointed members of the Black Stars’ expanded technical team, according to the Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum.

His clarification follows the GFA’s recent move to strengthen the national team’s backroom staff as part of its build-up toward the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

The decision to add more technical personnel had triggered public debate, with many questioning the financial impact on the Football Association.

On Friday, February 6, the GFA officially unveiled five new additions to the technical setup. The appointments include Alain Ravera and Kim Lars Bjorkegren as assistant coaches; Jose Daniel Martínez Alfonso as scout and video analyst; Carlos Lozano Romero as physiotherapist, and Dwayne Peasah Paa Kwesi as performance coach.

Asante Twum assured that the arrangement is temporary and financially supported by the state, meaning the GFA will not shoulder the extra salary commitments.

He explained that the government has agreed to take care of the remuneration of the newly engaged technical staff for the period of their assignment, easing concerns about additional pressure on the Association’s budget.

The newly recruited officials are expected to play key roles in improving the team’s competitiveness. Ravera and Bjorkegren arrive with strong European coaching backgrounds and are anticipated to add tactical depth to the bench.

Martínez Alfonso will focus on scouting and match analysis to sharpen the team’s strategic preparation.

Meanwhile, Romero will oversee player medical support and recovery, while Peasah Paa Kwesi will lead efforts to enhance fitness levels and overall on-field performance.

The expansion of the technical team forms part of broader efforts to better position the Black Stars for upcoming international competitions.
