Black Princesses coach Charles Sampson says he is eager to witness composure and growth from his players when they face South Africa on Sunday, as Ghana steps into a decisive phase of the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers.

The team has relocated camp to Accra to fine-tune preparations for the third round first leg, with the technical staff intensifying tactical sessions ahead of the high-stakes encounter.

Sampson acknowledged the psychological weight that accompanies such fixtures but believes it can inspire improved performances if managed correctly.

He stressed that nervous energy is part of elite competition and urged his squad to transform that tension into focus and discipline when they take the pitch at the Accra Sports Stadium.

“Nerves are a good thing; it means there is will. Having nerves during these games is normal, and we respect it. You also have to respect your opponent, and that is part of it. It is about how we handle it. I am looking forward to seeing the girls grow on Sunday and show maturity,” Sampson said.

Ghana opened their qualifying campaign with a 4-0 aggregate victory over Tunisia, recording 2-0 wins in both legs to reach this stage.

The Princesses seek to progress to the qualifying round and maintain their record of World Cup participation. The return fixture will be played in South Africa between February 12 and 14.
