Dr. Osei Yaw Adutwum, presidential aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has described his campaign as dignified and unifying, stressing that his vision for Ghana focuses on prosperity, poverty eradication, and creating a nation on par with leading countries worldwide.
Speaking to Channel One News at a polling centre in Bosomtwe, Ashanti Region, on Saturday, January 31, Dr. Adutwum outlined his vision for Ghana, citing examples from countries like Singapore and the United States to stress the urgency of transforming the nation.
“I believe that the prosperity of this nation is at stake, and my vision is to ensure that we create a prosperous nation. Singapore has done it. I don’t understand why we cannot have the capacity to do it. We are going to build a nation that is just like others around the world. I don’t understand why God created us the same. We are all human beings, but others are way ahead of us,” he said.
He called for a focus on eradicating poverty, providing livable wages, improving infrastructure, and ensuring affordable access to basic utilities.
“In some places, people are paying more for electricity than rent. The prosperity of this nation is at stake, and my vision is to ensure that we create a prosperous Ghana,” Dr. Adutwum added.
He urged Ghanaians to embrace a campaign that promotes ideas over insults, noting that political progress does not require denigrating opponents.
“The National Democratic Congress doesn’t have to be bad for my party to be good. I have run a dignified campaign, and Ghanaians are seeing a new kind of political leadership,” he said.
Dr. Adutwum said the presidential primary process was smooth and peaceful. He thanked his supporters and constituency leaders for their efforts in rallying behind him.
“I’m very appreciative of the work that has been done by the leaders of this constituency, rallying around me to campaign so that we can end at the finish line with pride. By divine providence, I am here today, and I hope delegates will recognise my service and support me,” he said.
Dr. Adutwum emphasised his commitment to a respectful campaign, noting that he has refrained from speaking negatively about his fellow aspirants.
“I’ve always maintained that I’m the most unifying of all the contestants. On the campaign trail, I never said anything untoward about any of the aspirants, so none of their followers will have a problem following me,” he said.
The NPP presidential primaries, being held nationwide, will determine the party’s flagbearer for the 2028 general elections.
