The newly installed paramount chief of Asante Mampong, Daasebre Osei Bonsu III, will, on Monday, January 19, 2026, swear the oath of allegiance to the Golden Stool (Sikadwa Kofi), Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and Asanteman at Manhyia Palace.

Mampong is the second most powerful paramountcy in Asanteman, and its occupant, the Mamponghene, holds the Silver Stool of the Asante Kingdom.

The Silver Stool, distinct from the Golden Stool, signifies the Mamponghene’s responsibility to act on behalf of the Asantehene in critical matters of custom and governance, particularly in the Asantehene’s absence.

In the event that an Asantehene dies, the Asante Mamponghene serves as the Regent of Asanteman until a new king is enstooled.

Below is a brief profile of the man who is now occupying the Silver Stool of Asanteman.

The new Asante Mamponghene was nominated by the queen mother of the Asante Mampong Traditional Area (Asante Mamponghemaa), Nana Agyakoma Difie II, to succeed Daasebre Osei Bonsu II, who died in April 2025.

Daasebre Osei Bonsu III, who is known in private life as Leslie Nkansah Osei-Bonsu, is an engineer, a senior software architect, and a geospatial strategist by profession.

Leslie Nkansah Osei-Bonsu is a royal of Asante Mampong and the brother of the current queen mother, Nana Agyakoma Difie II. The 51-year-old Asante Mamponghene was born on March 14, 1974.

He began his education at the City of Kumasi School and continued at Prempeh College.

Why Mamponghene is the second-in-command to Asantehene

He later pursued a BSc in Geometric Engineering at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

Leslie furthered his studies internationally, earning a master’s degree in Geo-Information and Earth Observation from the University of Twente, Netherlands, followed by a second master’s in Computational Science and Engineering from the University of Munich, Germany.

He has over two decades of experience as a senior software and geospatial systems strategist.

Until his nomination, he served as Product and Service Group Manager at GAF AG in Germany, where he managed advanced geospatial solutions and technology systems.
