The strength to handle responsibilities determines whether they endure, grow, and ultimately succeed, and that is exactly what the story of the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, looked like.
From his days as a party secretary, this young politician has risen to his unexpected place in regional leadership, detailing his remarkable story of how he transitioned from serving as the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Ashanti Region Secretary to becoming the Regional Minister.

Speaking in an interview with media personality Deloris Frimpong Manso, popularly known as Delay, on Saturday, January 17, 2026, Dr Amoakohene disclosed that his appointment came as a surprise, even to him.
He explained that he had served as the NDC Ashanti Region Secretary for several years, leading up to the 2024 Election.
After the elections, his role, together with the regional chairman, according to him, was to select and recommend individuals they believed were qualified to serve as regional ministers.
Dr Amoakohene added that none of the lists he prepared and handed over to the regional chairman for submission had his own name.
“I was the NDC Ashanti Region Secretary. After the elections, we were tasked with selecting individuals we deemed qualified and recommending them for appointments. That was what occupied me during our first month of governance.
“Interestingly, all the lists that were taken to Accra did not have my name. I don’t recall any of them, including me, even though I was the one compiling the names. At the time, I was thinking of staying in the party, practising medicine, and continuing as the party’s regional secretary,” he stated.

Dr Frank Amoakohene added that to his surprise, he rather go selected.
He explained that after the party had submitted its list of recommended names, he received a hint from someone that President John Dramani Mahama had selected him to serve as the regional minister.
Shortly afterwards, he said he was contacted by the president’s secretary and asked to submit his Curriculum Vitae.
Curious about why his CV was requested, Dr Amoakohene said he carried out his own background checks to verify the information. Although the hint turned out to be accurate, he said he remained cautious and chose not to celebrate immediately, even when the news began circulating publicly.
He added that it was only when he saw the announcement published on the official Facebook page of the Jubilee House that he fully accepted the reality of his appointment.
“I got a hint about my appointment just before the official announcement. Later, the president’s secretary asked me to send my CV. Wondering why he requested it, I decided to do some personal background checks. Although I had been informed, I still didn’t believe it.

“When I finally found out, I was a bit overwhelmed. However, because of the work I had done in the past as secretary, I knew I had to quickly adjust and learn on the job,” he said.
He also added that; “After they collected my CV, I first heard the news of my appointment through the media. I didn’t rejoice much until I saw it confirmed on the official Facebook page of the Jubilee House. It was a huge call for me, but I composed myself and began to restrategise to get the work done.”
