Lieutenant Colonel Jacqueline Dela Galley has taken over as the Head of the Ghana Military Police (GMP) on January 15, 2026, making her the first female Commanding Officer of the unit.

A ceremony was held to mark the transfer of authority from Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Percy Odartey Lamptey to Lt Col Jacqueline Dela Galley.

Lt Col Percy Odartey Lamptey now takes on a new role as Deputy Director, Inspection and Monitoring, at the Inspector General Department, General Headquarters.

He congratulated Lt Col Jacqueline Dela Galley on her appointment as the first female Commanding Officer of the unit.

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) shared the news on social media on Friday, January 16, 2026.

“The Ghana Military Police (GMP) has held a ceremony to mark the transfer of authority from Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Percy Odartey Lamptey to Lt Col Jacqueline Dela Galley on Thursday January 15, 2026”, the post read.

The Military Police (MP) of Ghana is a specialised branch of the Ghana Armed Forces.

It is responsible for maintaining law and order within the military, enforcing military regulations, conducting investigations related to military offenses, and providing security for military personnel, installations, and operations.

They act as the principal law enforcement agency within the military, ensuring discipline and upholding the integrity of the armed forces.

The MP also plays a crucial role in ceremonial duties and provides support to civilian law enforcement agencies when required.
