Dr Abdul-Kabiru Tiah Mahama is Member of Parliament for Walewale Dr Abdul-Kabiru Tiah Mahama is Member of Parliament for Walewale

Member of Parliament for the Walewale Constituency, Dr Abdul-Kabiru Tiah Mahama, has said critics of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) who operate outside the party’s internal structures lack the capacity to drive meaningful change.

Speaking on The Verdict with Isaac Addae, Dr Tiah Mahama acknowledged that while such individuals continue to speak publicly, their influence within the party has significantly diminished due to their disengagement from decision-making processes.

“They can speak, but they cannot make any fundamental changes to the things they are complaining about because of the position they have put themselves in,” he said. “It is rather unfortunate.”

According to the MP, critics who relinquish their delegate status and distance themselves from the party’s internal mechanisms effectively reduce themselves to observers rather than active participants in shaping the party’s future.

He stressed that genuine reform within the NPP can only be achieved through sustained involvement and constructive engagement within party structures, insisting that criticism without participation cannot produce the change being demanded.

Dr Tiah Mahama’s remarks come amid rising tensions within the party following comments by veteran politician Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, who warned that he and other founding members could leave the NPP if the party proceeds with moves to expel former Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation Minister, Prof. Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, over alleged anti-party conduct.

The controversy follows remarks by Prof Frimpong-Boateng during an interview in which he described the NPP as a “fake party” and stated that he no longer considers himself a member.
