Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has disclosed that the United States government has assured Ghana it will not impede the removal of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta and former Public Procurement Authority head Sedina Tamakloe Attionu.
The assurance came during a high-level Ghana–US bilateral meeting hosted by Mr. Ablakwa at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which reviewed the state of cooperation between the two countries and outlined priority areas for 2026.
“The United States Government has assured, that without prejudice to judicial processes, it will not stand in the way of Ghana as regards the removal of Ken Ofori-Atta and Sedina Tamakloe Attionu,” Mr. Ablakwa revealed in a social media post.
The meeting, led on the US side by Acting Ambassador Rolf Olson, assessed progress in bilateral relations over the past year and set the agenda for continued collaboration. Mr. Ablakwa noted that the discussions included both legal and security cooperation, highlighting the improved law enforcement collaboration between the two countries.
Both sides commended the extradition of nine suspects from Ghana to the US in 2025 and discussed ongoing efforts to repatriate two high-interest Ghanaians from the US back to Ghana.
Beyond judicial and security matters, the meeting reaffirmed strong economic and trade ties. Mr. Ablakwa highlighted confirmations regarding recent payments to US companies and emphasized the improved business climate, which he described as “ideal for stronger Ghana-US trade.”
The engagement underscores Ghana’s commitment to advancing bilateral relations across legal, security, and economic sectors while ensuring that national priorities, including the handling of former public officials, are respected.
