Richard Ahiagbah has responded to Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng over his recent claim Richard Ahiagbah has responded to Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng over his recent claim

The Director of Communications of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, has responded to comments by former Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, over claims that the party should not elect former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as its flagbearer ahead of the 2028 general elections.

Ahiagbah accused the renowned heart surgeon and politician of impugning the party in an attempt to promote his preferred candidate in the upcoming NPP primaries.

According to him, Prof Frimpong-Boateng is entitled to support any candidate of his choice but should do so without dragging the party’s name or undermining other aspirants.

In a post on social media on January 13, 2026, Ahiagbah wrote, “I think Prof. Boateng is campaigning for his candidate; the only problem is that he is impugning the NPP to advance his candidate ahead of the 31st January primaries. It’s okay for him to do so but not at the detriment of the party or Dr Bawumia as he did in his interview on Channel One.

‘To hell with them’ – Professor Frimpong-Boateng fires back at NPP

“Prof’s is harmful to the prospects of his candidate and the party. Indeed, this approach to campaigning for one’s candidate is, to say the least, damaging. Truth is, any one of the five aspirants will give the NPP a fighting chance in the 2028 presidential election. Now, let Prof. advance why he thinks his preferred candidate gives NPP a superior fighting chance in 2028. This is the way to go… Let’s all focus on the big picture. NPP first….that’s it! “

Prof Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng had earlier warned that re-electing former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the NPP’s flagbearer would spell disaster for the party, describing such a decision as a “train wreck.”
