The Vice President of Ghana, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has called on the private sector to actively support the Free Sanitary Pad Initiative by the government.
Speaking during a meeting with the Sunda Group on Tuesday, January 13, 2025, she stated that the initiative is a priority for the government.
“A girl’s natural biological functions should never prevent her from learning or achieving her full potential. That is why the Free Sanitary Pad Initiative remains a priority for government, with GH¢292.4 million allocated in the 2026 Budget,” she noted.

She commended the Sunda Group for their contributions to the initiative.
“We are grateful for the Sunda Group’s donations, which meaningfully support this national program and help protect the dignity of our girls,” she added.
The vice president also touched on the potential of private sector partnerships to boost productivity, expand operations, and create jobs.
“Sustained economic growth must be driven by innovation, efficiency, and partnerships that deliver tangible benefits to the people.

“Partnerships like these demonstrate how we can drive inclusive growth, protect dignity, and build a healthier, more productive Ghana,” she further added.
The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, in partnership with the Ministry of Education, launched the Free Sanitary Pad Initiative to provide free sanitary pads to over two million schoolgirls across Ghana.
The programme, launched at the Salvation Army Cluster of Schools in Accra on Thursday, April 24, 2025, is part of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government’s efforts to address period poverty and reduce school absenteeism among adolescent girls.
