Professor Frimpong-Boateng says he no longer considers himself part of the ‘fake’ NPP
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced that it has begun processes to expel Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng from the party following comments he made during a television interview earlier this week.
In a statement issued by the party and signed by the General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua, the NPP said it had taken “due notice of comments made by Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng during an interview on Channel One TV on Monday, 12th January 2026,” in which he described the NPP as a “fake party” and stated that he no longer considers himself a member of the party.

The party further cited additional remarks made by the former minister during the same interview, including allegations that the NPP’s 2023 presidential primary was rigged in favor of the former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the party’s flagbearer for the 2024 general elections.
“The Party unequivocally rejects Professor Frimpong-Boateng’s unfortunate characterisation of the NPP and firmly denies his baseless and unsubstantiated allegations regarding the conduct of the 2023 Presidential Primary,” the statement dated Tuesday, January 13, 2026, said.
According to the NPP, the 2023 presidential primary was conducted in line with democratic principles and reflected the will of party delegates.
“The said primary has been widely acknowledged by all candidates who participated, as well as by well-meaning members of the Party, as having been conducted in a free, fair, transparent, and credible manner, faithfully reflecting the will of Party delegates,” the party stated.
Describing Professor Frimpong-Boateng’s conduct as damaging to the party, the NPP said his utterances were inconsistent with its core values and unity.
“The New Patriotic Party views the conduct and utterances of Professor Kwabena-Frimpong Boateng as highly reprehensible and inimical to the values, unity, and integrity of the Party,” the statement added.
As a result, the party said it has activated internal disciplinary mechanisms to remove him from its membership.
“Consequently, the Party has invoked the relevant provisions of its Constitution to commence the necessary processes to expel him from the Party, strictly in accordance with due process,” it added.
Meanwhile, Prof Frimpong-Boateng, a former minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation has stated that the party has two branches, one he calls “fake” and the other “real.”
According to him, he no longer considers himself part of the “fake” NPP.
Speaking in an interview on Channel One TV on January 12, 2026, Professor Frimpong-Boateng said the party’s current way of handling affairs is tantamount to corruption.
“The present NPP is not the NPP I used to know. It’s fake. What I see now is not the party I knew,” he said.
When asked if he still considers himself part of the party, he responded, “Not the fake one. The real one is there it’s virtual and the members are there in the background.”
He further explained, “Look at how they elected their last flagbearer. They twisted the arms of the weak… bribed delegates and intimidated others to secure the flagbearer. This was for the 2024 election. This is the beginning of corruption and it should not be allowed in any serious situation or in any serious party.

“And there were issues we lost the elections badly and we did not address the problems that led to the losses.”
