The Committee with former President Akufo-Addo

Former President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has described the work of the Presidential Election Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as impressive in the lead-up to the party’s primaries scheduled for Saturday, January 31, 2026.

Sources indicated that the former president, who said this last Friday, following a meeting with the Committee at his private office at Labone in Accra, stressed that he was happy with the preparation so far, especially towards the planning of the activities in the lead-up to  the presidential primaries.

DAILY GUIDE also learnt that the Committee briefed the former president on the preparations and activities undertaken ahead of the election.

Former President Akufo-Addo, who touted the work of the Committee, said, “The Committee’s work, thus far, has been nothing short of impressive. Key milestones achieved on the principles of zero-tolerance for opacity have ensured transparency and guarded religiously the sanctity of the process.”

According to him, the approach adopted by the Committee has reinforced confidence in the credibility of the exercise, given its openness and strict adherence to the rules guiding the election process.

He said the Committee has shown fairness and trust among stakeholders, which has helped uphold the integrity of the election process.

The nine-member Presidential Election Committee is chaired by former First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Joseph Osei-Owusu.

Political watchers have indicated that the former president’s satisfaction of the processes ahead of the election will strengthen the confidence among party delegates and aspirants, especially at a time when there are recorded public outburst of some flagbearer aspirants.

With some few weeks to the polls, the Presidential Elections Committee is expected to release a final list of qualified candidates after the deadline of the appeals process, if there are any disqualified aspirants.

About 200,000 delegates including constituency executives, regional executives, Members of Parliament, and representatives from the party’s external branches among others are expected to vote in all 275 constituencies.
