Ebo Buckman is the Deputy Communications Director of the United Party
The Deputy Communications Director of the United Party (UP), Ebo Buckman, has criticised the Minority Caucus in Parliament, accusing it of trying to sow fear and panic in the country through recent statements.
Speaking on TV3 on January 9, 2026, Buckman questioned the purpose of the press conference organised by the Minority recently.

According to him, the Minority’s attempts through its statements and press conferences to undermine economic gains will be futile.
“What kind of press conference is this? What is the import of this press conference? And she went on to say that now investors are afraid to come to Ghana, and tourists are afraid to come to Ghana. You see, creating this fear and panic situation to affect the economy will not wash,” he said.
Buckman further alleged that the Minority’s actions were politically motivated, stating that he believes the caucus is hoping for the ruling government’s failure to improve the opposition’s chances of returning to power.
“We know it is your desire that this government fails so that it can come back to power. That does not mean that it should be having such press conferences… didn’t you see how the police people policed the Christmas for us to have a very smooth Christmas?” he said.
He noted that the police ensured a smooth Christmas and contrasted the Minority’s stance by saying, “… stop creating unnecessary fear and panic in the system just to let the outsiders know that there’s something going on in Ghana. I sleep with my two eyes closed. I don’t even lock my gate when I’m sleeping. Please, stop that.”
Buckman’s comments followed a press conference by the Minority, led by Deputy Minority Leader Patricia Appiagyei, where they expressed concern over the decline in national security during President John Dramani Mahama’s administration, among other issues.
Speaking to the media on Thursday, January 8, during an assessment of the president’s first year in office, Appiagyei said armed robbery and violent crimes have surged over the past year, eroding public confidence and undermining the sense of safety Ghanaians once enjoyed.

“Ghanaians now sleep with one eye open. The security situation has deteriorated, turning our once peaceful nation into one gripped by fear and uncertainty,” she said.
“As of July 2025, Ghana had recorded about 628 armed robbery cases and 314 murders involving illicit arms in just half a year. Ghanaians no longer feel safe in their own homes. The duty to safeguard life and property has weakened under politicised policing and neglect of our security services,” she added.
