Leslie Nkansah Osei Bonsu has been sworn in as the new paramount chief of Asante Mampong (Mamponghene) with the stool name Daasebre Osei Bonsu III.

Daasebre Osei Bonsu III succeeds the late Daasebre Osei Bonsu II, who died in March 2025, as the occupant of the Silver Stool of Asantehene, which makes him the second most powerful ruler in Asanteman, second only to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

A video of the swearing-in ceremony shared by The Asante Nation showed the moment the new ruler of Mampong was sworn into office.

With the sword in his hand, he pledged allegiance to the people of Mampong on Monday, January 5, 2026.

“Nifa, Bankum, Kontri, Akwamu, Adonten, Tsidom and its children, Jasey and Akobia, Nana Mamponghene, my grandfather is Asiamah Keishia, my grandfather is Ameniampong… my grandfather is Osei Bonsu I, my uncle is Osei Bonsu II. The good service of my forefathers to the people of Mampong is what I, Osei Bonsu III, am here to continue.

“I will serve you in truth and with courage. And if I turn my back on Mampong, I have (sic),” he said to cheers and roars from the crowd.

The swearing-in of the occupant of the Silver Stool of Asanteman comes after he was officially introduced to the Asantehene on December 18, 2025.
