New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirant Kennedy Agyapong has called for peace among party faithful and Ghanaians as the January 31 presidential flagbearer race approaches.

Speaking at the Ken’s National Praise 2026 event held in Accra on January 2, 2026, Agyapong, a former Member of Parliament for Assin Central and one of several candidates contesting the flagbearer slot, stressed that the event was strictly a moment for thanksgiving and spiritual reflection, not a political rally.

He urged supporters to pray for peace before, during, and after the NPP’s internal elections, warning against violence, bitterness, and division.

“As a people, and as a party, we are also entering an important election season. Our prayer tonight is simple: peace before the elections, peace during the elections, and peace after the elections. No violence. No bitterness. No division.

“Leadership comes from God, not from chaos. And when God leads, peace follows. Whatever the outcome of the elections, our prayer is for unity. Elections will pass, but unity must remain. When we stay united, we move forward together as one people,” he said.

Bloody NPP Primaries, Deaths and More: 2026 prophecies by Owusu-Bempah

The NPP officially set January 31, 2026, as the date for its presidential primary during a mid-2025 meeting of the party’s National Executive Committee.

The early scheduling gave aspirants nearly a year to campaign and engage delegates ahead of the 2028 general elections.

The primary, slated well in advance of the national polls, features several high-profile aspirants, including former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, former Education Minister Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, former Agriculture Minister Dr Bryan Acheampong, and former NPP General Secretary Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, alongside Agyapong.
