Abiola Ahmed Akinbiyi, a Nigerian singer known as Bella Shmurda, has encouraged his colleagues not to disparage Afrobeats with insulting words.
Recall that Burna Boy and Wizkid’s recent comments on Afrobeats, in which they renounced the genre, generated uproar.
Burna Boy remarked that Afrobeats lacks “substance,” emphasising that he produces Afrofusion rather than Afrobeats.
Wizkid, on the other hand, rejected the genre, claiming he doesn’t want to be classified as an Afrobeats musician.
However, while appearing on the newest episode of the London 90 podcast, Shmurda stated that Nigerian artists should appreciate Afrobeats.
He added that he has been mute on the subject for a long time because he does not want to be at the centre of the debate.

He said, “Recently, I heard something, I saw something that made me feel bad. I wanted to tweet but I don’t want to be in a position whereby I have issues with people.
“But for real, We artistes should respect Afrobeats. This is our genre, we can’t downgrade it. No matter your level in the music industry, you can’t downgrade this thing that God has given us.”
