The fallen towers
EIGHT HIGH tension towers of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) at Ejisu, have, reportedly, fallen to the ground, causing fear and panic in the community.
According to reports, the towers suddenly collapsed on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, sending shivers down the spine of residents, as most of them had to run for cover.
Luckily, no human casualties were recorded, as the high tension line, which is from Anwomaso BSP to Akyawkrom Substation, are sited far away from houses.
However, the unfortunate incident, the paper gathered, has plunged over 14 communities into total darkness, as the towers which provided them with electricity are not functioning.
The affected areas are Bekwai, Awiankwanta, Kumawu, Antoakrom, Manso Nkwanta, Jacobu Samfo-Aduam, Ejisu, Onwe, Besease, Asotwe, Abankro, Baworo and its environs.
Bolts, Nuts Thieves
According to reports, officials of the ECG, after thorough inspection at the scene, realised that bolts and nuts that were firmly fixed to the towers had been removed.
People in the community suspected that some young boys who trade in copper, may have secretly removed the bolts and nuts for sale, resulting in the collapse of the towers.
Other residents also linked it to politics, alleging that perhaps people, who want to embarrass the government, hired some people to collapse the towers and cause power outages.
National Security Alert
Considering the serious nature of the case, there are reports that the National Security and other sister security agencies have been informed to investigate the matter.
When filing this report on Tuesday evening, no arrests had been made yet, but reports suggested that the security agencies are leaving no stone unturned in their resolve to get to the bottom of the case.
